Flooring in temporary buildings

Aganto supply temporary buildings to a variety of industrial and commercial businesses and for different uses such as warehousing, storage, retail outlets and even as a temporary fire station. However, assembling the building is not the end of the story.

Once the temporary building is erected, depending on what it is being used for, it needs fitting out with the necessary equipment such as racking and shelving, but some thought also has to be given to the type of flooring needed.

Using the existing floor surface

If the building is located on level hard standing that may all that is required, and is probably preferable if the building is not needed for a long period of time to keep costs down. Using the existing ground means that goods can be moved in and out of the building without the need of any kind of ramp for a forklift. Any additional flooring would impinge on the available storage space, not by much but it could be important if, for example, the height of the racking is a tight fit.

If the ground is not level then is better if the building is erected on a concrete slab which will level out the surface. It is obviously better if this is done prior to the building being assembled as it can as easily be anchored to this type of surface as level hard standing. It is best to discuss with the building supplier before laying the slab to ensure it meets the specification required for the building. This does add to the overall cost of the building, but does take away any uncertainty about the suitability of the floor surface, and it is cheaper than other possible flooring options

Temporary building flooring systems

If the building is going to be used on a more permanent basis (they can be used for many years) then a more sophisticated flooring system may be preferred.

A polymer system, where polymer is applied to the existing surface leaving it level and resistant to impact and abrasion. There a variety of different compounds used in this type of flooring system and the choice depends on the level of protection required. This sort of floor treatment will result in a smooth level finish which is durable and able to support loads of over 100 tonnes per square metre. It is difficult to imagine a scenario where this wouldn’t be enough for most businesses!

A temporary building is a versatile and cost effective resource to a growing business or one that needs extra space quickly because of an unfortunate event. They can be used for a variety of purposes and with the addition of the right floor and other accessories, can be a long term solution to space problems in many industries. Aganto can, of course, offer advice on suitable flooring for individual projects.
